2 companies cleared to pursue geothermal power projects

MANILA, Philippines – two geothermal power developers bagged government approval of their projects.

The Department of Energy (DOE) approved three projects of Pan Pacific Power Philippines Corp.

The company has proposed projects in Benguet, Cagayan and Abra.

Besides geothermal, Pan Pacific  is also developing a 600 megawatt hydropower project in Apayao, a 4.3 megawatt facility Kalinga, and a 4.44 megawatt project in Cagayan.

The second company, SKI Construction Group inc., plans to put up geothermal projects in Batangas, the Tiaong prospect in the Laguna-Quezon-Batangas area, and the Tayabas-Lucban prospect also in Quezon.

The country has an untapped geothermal resource potential of about 2,600 megawatts.
