Eco Products That Really Work
Following the global financial crisis in recent years, with many people tightening their purse strings, a growing scepticism has been building about green and eco products.
A lot of this scepticism generates from untrue or outlandish claims that some marketing companies use on products that really don’t have any green credentials at all. From motor cars, to kitchen appliances, advertisers have used the term ‘green’ or ‘eco-friendly’ just to attract environmentally conscious buyers.
A term has even been coined in America describing the problem: ‘greenwashing’ (a portmanteau mixing green and brain washing), and such unscrupulous marketing has had an effect on genuine eco products that really do benefit the environment and help reduce our energy consumption, with people tarring all products with the same scepticism.
But there are some genuine and really innovative green and eco friendly products available that not only can benefit the environment but can also save energy and money in the process. Here are some genuine eco products that can make big difference in energy use and energy bills:
Eco friendly lighting
Energy saving lightbulbs can make a big difference. while, slightly more expensive than conventional bulbs, energy-saving bulbs can pay for themselves many times over. in Britain if everybody switched from conventional incandescent light bulbs to energy saving ones, over one millions tonnes of emission could be saved each year. The EU has even started restricting the sales of traditional lightbulbs because of such savings.
Other forms of energy saving lighting can reduce consumption of electricity too. Solar lighting used as replacement for security lights, garden lights or other lighting used only infrequently, produces zero emissions and can make added savings.
Solar Powered Chargers
These days so many have a myriad of gadgets, from mobile phones and laptops, to PDAs and MP3 players, all of which require charging. And while these devices only use a limited amount of power to recharge, it all adds up over time-especially if you leave the chargers plugged in and switched on when not charging, which still uses power as most chargers are transformers, converting AC power to DC and still use energy even when no device is plugged into them.
However, because the power required to recharge gadgets is fairly low, solar power is an ideal method of recharging them. Solar powered chargers requires no mains energy and produces zero emissions, and even if you can’t use them all the time, by taking advantage of the sun when you can, the incremental savings can add up over time and make a difference to both your annual carbon footprint and your energy bills.
